The Friends of the Horniman was an independent charity that built awareness of the Horniman’s work and helped support important projects and acquisitions through fundraising, volunteering and other practical support.

Established in 1988, the Friend raised over £250,000 towards the Horniman’s collections, galleries and Gardens and were some of the Horniman’s most important ambassadors – working closely with staff on a number of events as well as offering a social programme involving get-togethers and visits to other places of interest.

The Friends were focused on the education of members of the public by promotion, support, assistance and improvement of the Horniman. The group worked to further the charitable purpose of the Horniman through activities like the Friends of the Horniman Art Exhibition, and encouraged development of the facilities which we offer.
