Horniman Visitor Figures 2015/16

Along with the other DCMS-sponsored museums and galleries, the Horniman Museum and Gardens supplied annual key performance indicators to the DCMS (PDF) in January 2017.

Key data supplied by the Horniman and issued by the DCMS, includes:

  • our total number of museum visitors* for the year – 793,883, an increase of 43,494 or 5.79% from the previous year
  • the number of facilitated and self-directed visits by visitors under 18 years old and in formal education – 38,235, an increase of 3,362 or 10.59% from the previous year
  • the proportion of visitors who would recommend a visit, at 99%.

We were unable to supply figures for just two indicators in this report – child visits and overseas visits – as we were concerned about the robustness of the data for these that was captured by our research agency during 2015/16.

* figures do not include visitors to the Horniman Gardens. Total visitors to the Museum and Gardens combined was 901,532 for 2015/16, an increase of 41,835 or 4.8% from the previous year.
