Explore and celebrate India with us.

Each Wednesday will feature different performances and activities ranging from storytelling, dance, films to music performances as well as art and craft inspired by traditions from all over India.

Wednesday 9 August

Sari Draping Workshops with Subrang Arts Showcase

Join Subrang Arts for these drop in workshops to learn how to drape and wear a sari.

Times:

  • 10.45am – 11.30am
  • 1.45pm – 2.30pm

Location: In the Pavilion

Indian Dance Performances and Workshops

Watch dancers from Subrange Arts perform traditional Indian dances, then learn some moves and join in.  

Times:

  • 11.45am – 12.30pm
  • 2.45pm – 3.30pm

Location: On the Bandstand

Colouring Creatures workshops with Emergency Exit Arts

Join EEA to create some large paintings in our Gardens and have a go at colouring in different Indian creatures.

Drop-in workshops at the following times: 

  • 11am – 12pm
  • 1pm – 2pm
  • 2:30pm – 3.30pm

Location: In the Gardens (relocated to the Education Centre in wet weather)

Suitable for all ages.

Saris, Songs and Slippers – Stories from India

Join Sri Lankan storyteller, Debbie Guneratne, on a storytelling journey across India.

Times:

  • 11.30am – 12.15pm
  • 1.15pm – 2pm
  • 3pm – 3.45pm

Location: Hands On Base Gallery

Recommended for age 5+.

Yoga Mela

A yoga class for the whole family – young and old! Come along to these fun sessions aimed at children and adults. Mela means gathering... and everyone's welcome.

Times:

  • 11.15am - 12pm
  • 1.15pm – 2pm
  • 3.15pm – 4pm

Location: In the Gardens (relocated indoors in the event of wet weather)

Wednesday 23 August

Bhangra/Bollywood Dance Workshop

Join Apsara Arts for a fun dance workshop on our Bandstand.  Malti Patel will show you some dance moves inspired by Bhangra (folk dance from the Punjab) as well as funky Bollywood moves inspired by the film OM SHANTI OM, then join in the fun and have a go yourself.  Fun for the whole family. 

Suitable for ages 3+

Times:

  • 11.15am-12pm
  • 1.15pm – 2pm
  • 3.15pm – 4pm

Location: Bandstand (relocated inside in the event of wet weather)

Arts Network - Indian Art Workshop

Join our community partner Arts Network to create either a fan inspired by Indian henna hand patterns or a tiger mask inspired by the Bengal Tiger in our Natural History Gallery.

Times: 

  • 10.30am - 11.15am
  • 11.30am – 12.15pm
  • 1.15 pm – 2pm
  • 2.15 pm – 3pm

Stories of Ganesha – Dotted Line Theatre

Ganesha, the elephant-headed Hindu god, has inspired Dotted Line Theatre to create a shadow puppet play about his adventures.

Location: Hands On Base

Recommended for age 5+. Limited space so queuing may be necessary.
