Come along to these fun family sessions that will explore a different theme linked to the collections in our galleries e.g. Animals, Costume, Masks, Music and Toys to name just a few.

Sessions are aimed at families with children aged 3+.  The first two sessions are aimed at younger children in particular.

Saturday 7 Jan - Puppets: find out how puppets from different countries are used to tell stories, then have a go at making the puppets move yourself.

Saturday 21 Jan - Chinese New Year: find out how people celebrate Chinese New Year, try on a Chinese Dragon Mask and see if you can dance like a dragon. 
Saturday 28 Jan - Storytelling

Saturday 4 Feb - Masks:find out about some of the special occasions that people wear masks for, then try on some of the masks from our collection.
Saturday 11 Feb - Animals: find out how and why animals change their bodies or behaviour to survive in the wild, and then touch taxidermy animals from our collection. 
Saturday 18 Feb -Music: find out why people from around the world play music and then enjoy playing some of the instruments from our collection. 
Saturday 25 Feb - Carnival: find out why and how people in different countries celebrate Carnival, and then join in the celebration by trying on masks and playing instruments from our collection.

Saturday 4 Mar - Nature: find out why different mini-beasts, animals and plants are so important to people and the planet and then touch amazing objects from our collection.
Saturday 18 Mar - Toys: find out why toys and playing are so important, then have fun playing with some of the toys from our collection. 

Saturday 1 Apr - Costume: find out why people in different parts of the world wear different kinds of clothes, then try on some of the costumes we have.
Saturday 8 Apr - Animals: find out how and why animals change their bodies or behaviour to survive in the wild and then touch taxidermy animals from our collection.
Saturday 22 Apr - Toys: find out why toys and playing are so important, then have fun playing with some of the toys from our collection. 
Saturday 29 Apr - Masks: find out about some of the special occasions that people wear masks for, then try on some of the masks from our collection.

Saturday 6 May - Flying Animals: can you think of any animals that can fly? You might just be surprised by the different ones that can! Then explore some of the taxidermy animals from our collection. 
Saturday 13 May - Puppets: find out how puppets from different countries are used to tell stories, then have a go at making the puppets move yourself.
Saturday 20 May - Animals: find out how and why animals change their bodies or behaviour to survive in the wild and then touch taxidermy animals from our collection.
Saturday 27 May - Fossils: what is a fossil? Find out how fossils are formed, then touch real fossils and see if you can name any of the fossils from our collection.
