Henry Potter

Biography

Henry Potter was the son of London-based musical instrument maker Samuel Potter (1772 - 1838). He succeeded his father on Samuel's death in 1838, and opened premises at 2 Bridge Street, Westminster. He continued his father's tradition of making military instruments, but also made flutes. Henry was the manufacturer of the early Clinton-sytem flutes, designed by John Clinton. Henry worked at 30 Charing Cross between 1858 and his death in 1876. His son George participated int he family business, and in 1859 moved to Aldershot and formed his own company, George Potter & Co.
