Join Senior Curator Navjot Mangat for a tour of our brand new exhibition and find out all about the complex history of Britain’s beloved beverage.

Whether we call it 茶, चाय or Tea, the drink brewed from the Camellia sinensis plant, is enjoyed by billions of people every day. It is Britain’s national drink and second only to water as the most popular beverage in the world.

Join Senior Curator of Social Practice and Curator of 茶, चाय, Tea (Chá, Chai, Tea) Navjot Mangat on a tour of this brand new exhibition. Horniman Arts Fellow Maia Conran will also talk us through their new display within the exhibition.

Content warning: The exhibition contains content that could be upsetting or triggering. Themes that are explored throughout the exhibition include: violence, sexism, racism, enslavement, indentured labour, sexual violence, addiction.

  • Members and Benefactors exclusive event. Please bring your membership card with you on the day so that we can check you off the list.
  • The tour will start at 9.30am and run for about 45 mins to an hour. We will meet at the main entrance 10 minutes before the event starts.
  • Tickets must be purchased on our website, over the phone or at our ticket desk in advance.
  • If you are unable to make the event, please advise us in advance.
