Happening at the Horniman: October 2016

We have our Magic Late, Halloween Fair and a whole host of Half Term activities happening at the Horniman this October.

Magic’s many shapes and forms are only revealed at night. As the sun sets, join us for an evening of sorcery, folklore and mystery throughout the Museum at our Magic Late event on 13 October.

Join us for fiendish fun at our annual Halloween Fair. Enjoy our amazing arts and crafts markets and fabulous food stalls, plus spooky animal handling and more. Make sure you book your tickets in advance for the Curse of the Mummy!

It is the last few weeks of our popular, family-friendly Dinosaurs:Monster Families exhibition. Catch it now before it becomes extinct.

Events and exhibitions

Make sure you catch the beautiful Avian Forms artwork in our Natural History Gallery. Jane Edden's inspiring pieces will be on display until the 9 October

Pop down to Gallery Square throughout October to see Fauna Brazil - breath-taking photography of Brazilian wildlife on the brink of extinction.

The Horniman Library has been working with a number of our community partners on a project inspired by Anna Atkins.  Come along on to our Library Open Day on the 2 October to see the beautiful cyanotypes they have made and for a chance to see our original Anna Atkins books.

Silver Sunday is an annual day of fun and free activities for older people across the UK. On 2 October, join local memory experts for Memory Lane - an afternoon of arts and craft activities open to all. You will have a chance to learn more about Roots and Branches, a local history project and exhibition now on display in the Education Centre.

On 8 October, join a local environmental expert for our Nature Trail Activity Walk. Have a go at sweep-netting, tree-beating, identification and other fun activities to discover plants, animals and insects that live on our historic nature trail.

World Mental Heath Day aims to raise awareness of Mental Health issues. Come along to a fun family day on 15 October and take part in activities around the Museum to learn more about wellbeing.

October's Hear it Live performance on 25 October will be from Tony Johnson, who will give a talk about the Hoffmann lute in our collection and perform on a lute he made based on his technical drawing of the Hoffmann lute.

Do you know a budding Palaeontologist? Come to Dino-Land on 26 October and join in a hunt for Dinosaurs around the Museum.

Don't forget to pop by our Farmers' Market every Saturday for delicious food and to stock up on local produce.
