The Horniman Calls for Your Wandering Walrus Snaps

Update: the deadline for getting your entries in has been extended to Monday 9 September, so just one more week to get snapping!

Owners of one of the Horniman Museum’s cuddly toy walruses are being invited to enter a competition to find the best snap of their flippered friends out and about and on holiday.

Visitors have been buying the walrus toys since our one-ton taxidermy icon left for Margate in May.

One winner will receive a £20 gift voucher to spend in the Horniman shop and five finalists will be invited to the walrus’s welcome home party when he returns to the Museum’s Natural History Gallery in September.  The winning snap will also be featured on the Museum’s website.

‘We’d love as many people as possible to join in and celebrate our walrus’s summer holiday. So please leave a little space in your suitcase for a stuffed walrus and send us your best snap. From the sights of London and the British seaside to sunny Spain or the Seychelles, who knows where the walruses will wander.’  - Adrian Murphy

Entries should be submitted by Monday 9 September by tweeting @hornimanmuseum, posting to Instagram or uploading to Flickr or they can be sent via email to web@horniman.ac.uk.  All entries should be tagged #wanderingwalrus.

Small and large toy walruses are on sale in the Museum shop priced at £8.50 and £12.00.

The Horniman walrus is currently at the Turner Contemporary in Margate as part of their Curiosity: Art and the Pleasures of Knowing exhibition, until 15 September.
