Join us for a day of free activities celebrating beautiful butterflies.

Take part in the Big Butterfly Count with our bug expert (or entomologist) Richard Jones, hear stories and make some butterfly art and craft.

Butterfly talk

  • Time: 11.15am
  • Location: Hands on Base

Join entomologist (or insect expert) Richard ‘Bugman’ Jones for a family friendly talk.  Find out about the differences between butterflies and moths and then have a close up look at some examples of both from our collections.

Storytelling tour

  • Times: 11.30am, 1.15pm and 3pm

Find out about Jeanne Baret, French adventurer and botanist who was the first woman to circumnavigate the world, and hear stories of the wondrous creatures she met during her travels. Can you spot some of them in the Gardens?

The Big Butterfly Count

  • Times: 1.30pm to 3.30pm
  • Location: the Nature Trail.

Take part in the Big Butterfly Count, using spotter sheets and sweeper nets.

Join us every Wednesday in the holidays 10.30am – 3.30pm to enjoy a variety of activities from music and entertainment, to art and craft and storytelling.

Activities are free, drop-in and open to everyone.
