salt box (box (food processing & storage))

Salt box, carved from a single piece of wood in the form of a sphere with a handle, which extends from the top. The handle is shaped so that there is a hook, from which it may have been suspended. There is a hole in the base, which may once have had a stopper. The handle has a carving of a church on one side, the spherical part also has a carving of a church and graveyard over most of the surface, with a horse on the slightly flattened reverse.
