coat (clothing: outerwear)

Man's white felt coat gaily embroidered in many colours. Made from rectangles of cream felt, applique bands around the lower edge and the front opening, around the side at waist level, ending in pocket flaps, on the cuffs and collar. The bands have been decorated with embroidery in wool in a variety of colours, with the stitching exending onto the cream felt also. On either side of the chest is an embroidered design, consisting of a crown above two vertically aranged medallions. On the lower of the two medallions is an embroidered initial, M on the right and Z on the left. On the back the date is embroidered in two places, '18' to the left and '97' to the right. 47" x 40". Some moth damage.
