mask (dance & live theatre)

Anthropomorphic mask constructed from two plates of hawksbill turtle shell, which have boiled to soften them and then shaped over wooden moulds. The mask is pierced at regular intervals all around the outer edge, and would have formerly been fringed with feathers, possibly cassowary feathers.
