One pair of leather shoes, Frosinone, South of Rome, Italy. Made from rectangular piece of thick hide, pierced to take wide leather thongs which serve to close over the toe and fasten the shoe to the foot and leg. A length of cord for fastening also attached to thongs. Still worn in 1913 by both men and women. Worn with stockings.
