Alto clarinet in E flat, brown stained wood (possibly maple), brass mounts and crook, straight plated brass bell. Fifteen brass keys (including rings for left and right first and second fingers and covered hole for left third finger), round, shallow-cupped, mounted on pillars and some incorporating rod-axles and needle-springs. Ring key for B/F sharp; also for high F/C. Covered hole for C/G. duplicate E flat/B flat. Total length of tube approximately 97 cm. Apparently pitched lower than was usual in England at time of manufacture. Mouthpiece of dark brown wood, possibly original. Upper and lower joints cracked. Stamped: J. Higham 2 Victoria St. & Gt. Ducie St. Manchester.
