Natural cornet, cornet simple, cornet ordinaire, brass body, ferrules and garland. Mouthpiece probably original. Circular form; two coils. Crooks for B flat, A flat, G and F. Inside of bell decorated with foliage in gold on a crimson background. Stamped: Charles Kretzschmann Strasbourg (marked: A; and two five-petalled flowers).

Players of natural cornets and stopped trumpets placed their fingers in the bell of the instrument and closed it off to varying degrees to produce notes not in the harmonic series. The wear patterns in the painted bell interior of this instrument show evidence of this technique.
