Flute in D, ivory, wooden head, chased silver-gilt mounts. Six finger holes, eight keys, originally silver-gilt, round, cupped, mounted in turned blocks and ring (cross F natural key missing and hole plugged). Graduated metal tuning slide. Movable cork stopper on ivory bush. Wooden head probably a replacement and badly cracked. Lower (right hand) joint is cracked. Cross F natural key is missing. Finger-plate and upper part of the shank of the long F natural key have been replaced. Pad of the C sharp foot key is missing. Sounding length (embouchure to foot) is 58.8 cm. Stamped: Clementi & Co., London. Marked C. Nicholson Improved and numbered 599.
