Flute in D, black wood, German silver mounts. In three sections: the right-hand and foot joints are integral. Ten German silver keys, round, shallow-cupped, mounted on pillars. These include low B natural foot key, duplicate finger plate to B flat and further key for left hand first finger. Movable cork-lined stopper. Metal tuning slide. Metal bushes to covered holes. Sounding length (embouchure to foot) is 62.7 cm. Head cracked from end to end. Incipient crack in lined socket. Stamped: F. Muss Wien (six-petalled flower mark). German silver plate on socket inscribed: E. Thompson.
