toy animal

Lifelike, detailed model prawn made from cast iron, articulated at all of the natural joints by rivets. It probably represents a species of freshwater prawn, with the second pair of pereiopods extending to more than the bodty length of the prawn, with large claws at the end. It is kept in a rectangular wooden box with a sliding lid, which has an inscription in Japanese on it. The inscription on the lid reads: 'Tetsu nobi chijimi (or Shinjuku) ebi [...] mono'. This means 'articulated iron lobster'.
