A pair of Mandarin squares, or rank badges, made of silk and woven in a lampas weave, a twill pattern background with supplementary floats. Each depicts a silver pheasant, the emblem of rank of a civil official of the fifth rank. The bird, woven entirely in gold-coloured metal-wrapped thread, is depicted flying towards a pale pink sun, situated in the top left hand corner. The brown background surrounding the bird is completely filled with blue clouds. The imagery is framed with a Chinese calligraphic character alternating with another symbol, both also worked in metal-wrapped thread. The squares are lined with light blue tabby woven silk.
