cushion cover

Long, rectangular linen pillow case fromed form a textile which has been folded in two and the selvedges sewn together. This indicates a final use as a pillow/cushion cover. The textile has been patched. What would originally have been the centre of the cloth is embroidered in pink cotton thread. The motif consists of two large confronting horses separated by a very stylized tree of life. Beneath the body of each horse is a bird (?). The centre panel is framed on each side by five tulip-shaped blooms. These are repeated a further eight times along one selvedge. The opening is hemmed.
