barkcloth

Almost square cream-coloured barkcloth decorated with pigment in brown and black. The decoration on the textile consists of a centre panel surrounded by a narrow border. The narrow border contains two different patterns: sets of diagonals, and triangles in pairs. Four sets of lettering are interspersed on one longer side: 'ATUPUT', with the A upside down and the P mirrrored, appears twice, with 'JEUMAIOEU' in between. The last set of letters is almost illegible: 'MOE[...]O'.

The panel is divided into two halves by a narrow stripe containing dentate patterning. One half contains three rows of squares, the other four. The decoration consists alternatingly of geometric forms (triangles, squares, and lozenges), and plant-like motifs. On the half containing four rows some of the plant motifs have fringed outlines.
