bed covering; wall hanging; textile

A large, rectangular quilted and reverse appliqué bed cover or wall hanging. It is made in two tones of brown, white and blue cotton and lined with white cotton fabric. It has two identical square patterns in the centre. An eight-pointed star is the main motif, surounded by four double spirals. These are enclosed by thin light and dark brown lines, which form 12 points, giving the appearance of a relief map. All is worked in reverse appliqué. Each of the small white squares, either single, or two joined at a point, or grouped into four, contain a blue diamond (applied work). Plain blue and white strips delineate the different areas, ending with a wider dark brown border. Made for tourists. [Textile]
