slide (photograph (documentary artefact))

Lantern slide depicting a Kiku Ningyo 菊人形 (chrysanthemum doll) display. Life size iki-ningyō 生人形 (living doll) figures are arranged in a tableau depicting a scene from a popular Kabuki play or story. The dolls' bodies are made of hay with a bamboo stand in the centre, with their garments made of chrysanthemums. The most well known place for the Kiku Ningyo festival was Dangou Zaka in Tokyo, and this photograph may have been made there.
