barkcloth; tapa; textile

Rectangular cream barkcloth with painted decoration in light and dark brown. The textile is seemingly from a larger piece as some patterns appear to be cut off. The tapa is divided into 2 stripes and smaller rectangles by narrow dark brown lines. The decoration in the bands goes across 2 rectangular areas. They contain foliate or geometric motifs, some of which are repeated. In 1 set of 2 bands diagonals create an overall X-shaped motif, containing lettering.
