doll (pastimes: toys)

Flat doll (Cf. English 'peg' doll); male. The doll has wind-blown white hair and black features drawn onto the face which is made of white cloth. It is dressed in a knee-length CHAPAN (robe-like garment) made from red/maroon cloth striped narrowly with yelow, black and white. The CHAPAN is tied with a waistband made from red, yellow and blue twisted wool; the legs are covered with black, cotton cloth.

This doll is one of seven bought in Mary/Merv museum. These dolls are made and sold for both the local and tourist markets. The dolls represent two male and five female costumes from different tribal groups in Turkmenistan.
