doll (pastimes: toys); finger puppet

A ‘peg’ doll or finger puppet. A woman in a maroon dress and CHYRPY (shawl) whose features have been sewn on to a white cloth face in black wool. The dress has horizontal stripes in yellow, dark brown and grey around the skirt. A large purple bib has several motifs sewn onto it: ram’s face ‘masks’; rectangular checks and scrolls in white, orange and maroon; all speckled with golden tinsel. The CHYRPY over the head and shoulders repeats the bib motifs. Under the CHYRPY is a maroon headscarf with diagonal stripes in yellow and grey, and white and yellow spots. The puppet is of coarse cotton cloth and is mounted on a stick wrapped in white cloth.
