cloth lamak; hanging (ritual & belief: representations); textile

Narrow, rectangular ritual hanging, lamak, made from tabby-woven synthetic fibre painted yellow and decorated with stencilled designs in dark green and red. The stencilled decoration consists of a central panel which is surrounded on 3 sides by an inward-facing dentate border. The panel is decorated with 4 designs. The lower one consists of 4 blades stemming from a band of floral motifs. Above this is a medallion filled with star-shapes. Above this is a standing female, perhaps representing dewi Sri, the rice goddess. The uppermost design is a triangle made up of smaller triangles with a star-shaped motif to either side of the apex. The panel has been hemmed by machine, and 2 small suspension loops are attached to the top.
