Hunting horn, cor de chasse. Brass body and garland with nickel silver-plated maker's plaque and mouthpiece receiver. Three coils. Curved stays link bell and mouthpipe to coils. Mouthpiece missing. Stamped around bell garland: RC DE L'ETOILE A PARIS; The letters PB are stamped on the maker's plaque. Stamped beneath the plaque: BREVETE

The maker of this instrument, François Périnet, was the inventor of the modern piston valve used extensively on trumpets and brass band instruments in Britain and America.
