112.13 Vessel rattles

Pair of dumuka pellet bells or thumb rings meant to be worn on the thumbs during dance perfomances.

Purchased from Konchada Someswara Rao, a metal merchant in Parlakhemundi, Gajapati dist 761200, Odisha, India, in November 2003. The rings are worn by Sora women and men during dance performances. They are cast using the lost wax (cire perdue) process.
