111.14 Concussion vessels or vessel clappers

Toka. A pair of clappers made of a tube of jatibah bamboo (Bambusa tulda Roxb.). The tube is split above the septum, and two handles are carved out. Made in Korahola, Majuli.

Rhythms for dance music are played on the toka. Many types of bamboo grow in Assam, and are used in the manufacture of musical instruments.
