At the Well

Painting of a village scene with two women beside a well. One is dressed in a white headscarf and dark brownish black clothing, reaching into the circular well; the other in an orange headscarf, dark brown jacket and white skirt, stands beside the well with hands joined behind her back. In the centre foreground are two buckets and a rope. The women are inside a fenced enclosure with a telegraph pole in the centre, another in the left background, and a wooden gate. Outside the enclosure, in the background, are three single-storey houses: two with pitched roofs and one with a flat roof; each house has a square window. Behind the flat roofed house is an electric pylon, with green trees in front. Impressionistic in style. The painting is held in place by six pins, with a white stick-on label numbered ‘4’.
