shoe (footwear)

Left shoe formed of sole moulded to the shape of the foot, curved upwards at the front and stitched along the top. Front edge has strip of leather thonging running through slits in the leather to reinforce edge. This strip also runs through a slit in a piece of leather running along the top of the foot, front to back, through which three further bands of leather run across the foot, the front two secured at the sides, while the third runs through a fold of leather stitched to the top of the shoe around the heel, emerging at one end with a buckle, and at the other with holes to secure the shoe.
