Small marimba (xylophone), with two beaters made for a learner, Guatemala, circa 1960. The wooden frame with integral trestle stand. 20 wooden bars are drilled through at either end for suspension by two strings that also run through the small slats that separate the bars. All bars except the topmost one have a resonator of rectangular section tapering to a point, each with a small hole encircled by a a black substance, with a buzzing membrane over the hole. The keys give a diatonic scale of one octave and one note above, plus five notes below.
