Shell nose ornament from Malaita, Solmon Islands.
Nose stud of clamshell in form of a bird. This particular style of nose-stud was worn in southern Malaita and Ulawa by men in the tip of the nose, sometimes said to identify men who had killed or eaten someone. See Burt, Akin and Kaw’ioloa, 2009, 95.
