Weighing balance with basket, bought while in use. The beam is of turned wood from which project three metal pins formed into loops at one side. On the opposite side projects a flat piece of wood which runs all the way through the beam. Another turned piece of wood echoing the shape of the beam pivots on the flat piece, attached to it by a piece of wire which runs through holes in each part. Towards the end of this smaller turned section a piece of string runs through. The pan is made of basketry. There are three strings attached to its circumference, joined together with a knot near the top and to a metal hook at the end. Dimensions of beam: 450mm long x 220mm wide x 60mm diameter; dimensions of scale pan: 289 dia, 62mm high. 490mm from base of pan to top of hook.
