Painted porcelain figure of rakan, Batsu-da-Ra, Kutani ware. In his right hand he holds a gold nyoi (priestly sceptre) and in his left a gold houju (symbol of luck). White long sleeved robe decorated in floral and vegetal motifs in red and gilt. Undergarment with qautrefoil motifs in lattice work across chest leaving upper chest bare. Long red cloth over head. Cross legged, sitting on rock. All in white with red and gilt decoration.The figure maker's seal and Kutani seal on base.
