collar (dog furniture)

Leather dog collar from Munich, Germany. The date is unknown but preceeds 1898 when it was acquired by the museum. The collar itself is made from leather and is heavily decorated with ornate metal work. Each end of the collar features a metal work floral motif followed by a vertical line of three square metal studs. The letters 'I' and 'W', worked in metal, feature on the left and right side of the collar respectively. The face of a lion or dog, worked in metal, features at the centre of the collar, a metal ring hangs from the animals mouth. To the right and left of this are further vertical lines of three square metal studs.
