A wire circlet, described in the accession register as 'from Shackleton's open boat'. This must refer to the James Caird, the 22-foot open boat, preserved at Dulwich College, in which Shackleton and five companions made their famous 800-mile journey across the Southern Ocean from Elephant Island to South Georgia in April-May 1916. One of several objects relating to Shackleton given to the Horniman by one of his sisters in 1938, recorded in the register for that year.
