kettle; lid (food service)

Iron kettle, tetsubin 鉄瓶, with semicircular handle above and bronze lid. The upper part of the body curves outwards from the top like an inverted bowl, then there is a horizontal inverted 'ledge' with a bowl-shaped lower part. The body has a rough texture, with four characters on one side, reading: 'bamboo, wind, fire and ??'. On the other side is a decorative motif of bamboo leaves and stems. The lid is flat and shiny in texture, with an inscription inside with four characters, reading: 'dragon, design, ?? made.' The third character is the maker's name but this has not yet been deciphered. The central knob of the lid is in the shape of a fruit, probably a persimmon and stem. Probably Meiji period.
