theatrical clothing; headdress (dance & live theatre)

Theatrical head-dress, a helmet of five circular tiers, topped with a high, spire-like pommel. The pommel is also of papier-mache, but built up on a wooden core. The helmet is painted brown, probably to simulate leather, and the whole is decorated with relief designs in gilded papier-mache and pieces of mirror glass. The designs include florets that are wired to the main structure with sprig. Inside of the helmet is lacquered to a gloss finish.
