The ownership of this object was transferred to Nigeria’s National Commission for Museums and Monuments (NCMM) in November 2022.

A carved wooden paddle. Benin City. The handle of the paddle has been carved and resembles interlocking chains. The large, teardop-shaped head of the paddle has some sections carved out completely to depict stylised animals and lines, and other sections of the wood have been carved with geometric designs. The head of the paddle tapers to a point.

An old object label with the old museum number (9.258) is stuck to the object.
