Print of a negative image (no. 5026) depicting an Anang funeral shirne (or 'nwomo'). A note is fixed to the back of the photograph: "David, Having looked at this closely I am sure that it is an old (possibly late 19th C.) nwomo: male funerary shrine from the Annang (sic) or Opobo area of Ibibioland. I refer you to Jill Salmons' paper in 'Ponting & Idiens' (?)1980. Keith 20/4. P.s. I suspect that a slave was sacrificed at the funerary ceremony- see prostrate human figure on bottom line of applique panel, and what might be this skull on the ground in front of the nwomo."
