This cap is designed to be worn by women, recognisable as a 'mampu' by its delicate beadwork and design. While there are some regional differences in the design of the hats, they are not meant to denote location with their design are instead inspired by nature, often featuring symbols of flowers, fruits, birds, stars, snowflakes, and the moon.
These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database.
