421.121.12 Open side-blown flutes with fingerholes

Flute, one key. The flute is made of ivory and is fitted with a single gilt key. The touch piece is engraved with scrolling foliage and the slightly irregular square flap is decorated with bagpipes. The original embouchure has been plugged and a new one cut on the other side of the head joint. The three interchangeable upper middle joints, or corps de rechange, are intended to enable the player to adjust to different pitches, the instrument's sounding length with each of these is: 18 1/4 ins, 17 3/4 ins and 17 3/16 inches The instrument retains its fitted case covered with tooled leather.
