case (container)

Flute case. Carved from a single piece of wood into the form of the two flutes. Decorated with flowers (probably cherry blossom) in gold leaf/paint. Lid is attached with joined tenons 16 mm long. Tenons and insides of sockets also gold. Cord is attached with 3 metal rings at back, 2 on body, 1 on lid. Cord has tassle at end. Bottom ends have inlayed metal discs with a single cherry blossom design cut into each. Tubes are lined with card backed fabric. The fabric is orange with gold decoration of geometric shapes and flowers (possibly chrysanthmum, two + rows of round petals, the inner row with five petals.)
