According to Edward Hart, writing on 15 April 1927, 'Left (no 1): adult female, October 4th 1881, winter plumage; right (no 2): adult male, April 18th 1883, summer plumage. Shot by me at Holly Splash, Christchurch. Sexes differ, summer and winter plumage differ. Mounted by me'.
