Dartford Warbler

Taxidermy case of four adult male and one adult female Dartford Warbler by Edward Hart.

Taxidermy case of four adult male and one adult female Dartford Warbler. According to Edward Hart, writing on 6 April 1927, 'Top left. (no 1): adult male, October 1859; middle left (no 2): adult male, November 1874; bottom middle (no 3): adult male, November 1876; middle right (no 4): adult male, January 1876; top right (no 5): adult female, November 1874, nest. All in this group were killed by cats and brought into the houses of cottagers, near Stanpit, Catterns Hill, and Christchurch, but why cats should not eat them is difficult to understand. Sexes differ; summer and winter plumage the same. Mounted by me'.
