Taxidermy case of two adult male, one immature male and one adult female Hawfinch (one male missing). According to Edward Hart, writing on 6 April 1927, 'Top left (no 1): adult female, January 1873; bottom left (no 2): adult male: winter plumage, November 1883; middle right (no 3): immature male, July 1887; top right (no 4): adult male, summer plumage, April 1896; nest and four eggs. All the above obtained by me in Grove Wood, Christchurch. Sexes differ; summer and winter plumage the same - with the exception that the bill of the male turns dark leaden-blue in the spring. Mounted by me'.
