Glenbow Foundation

Biography

The Glenbow museum was opened in 1966, when the petroleum entrepeneur and collector, Eric Lafferty Harvie (1892-1975) donatedhis collection of art, artefacts and historical documents to the people of Alberta. The musuem is one of the pargest in Canada and chiefly represents the history and culture of Western Canada.

In 1967, the Horniman acquired a tipi (with tent poles) and Canadian Indian canoe with paddle from the Foundation in exchanged for items from its own collection. The Glenbow foundation provided documentation on the objects including the provenance, date collected and collector information for each artefact.

Collection Information

These objects are only a part of our collections, of which there are more than 350,000 objects. This information comes from our collections database.
