picture (art)

Embroidered panel including much metal-wrapped thread couchwork, probably depicting Amaterasu in a mountain landscape. The other two figures may be her brothers, Tsukuyomi, the moon god, and Susano-O, the god of storms and the sea. Amaterasu bequeathed a jewel, a sacred mirror, and Susano-O's sword to one of her descendants, and these became the Imperial Regalia. In a wooden frame. Overall approximately 1760 mm high x 1310 mm wide.
